Your wedding is one of the most photographed days of your life, so it is completely understandable to have questions about your bridal spray tan and especially when it comes to timing.
Should you get sprayed the day before? Three days before? What about your rehearsal dinner? And will the tan have enough time to fully develop?
As the original spray tan artist serving the Palm Beach Florida area since 2009, my general recommendation is if possible to schedule your bridal spray tan two days before your wedding.
For a Saturday wedding, Thursday is typically the ideal day.
Why Two Days Before the Wedding Is Ideal
A professional spray tan does not show its final color immediately. The cosmetic bronzer you see when you leave the studio is temporary guide color. After your first rinse, much of that bronzer washes away while your actual sunless tan continues developing over the next 12 to 24 hours.
Scheduling your appointment two days before the wedding gives your tan enough time to:
- Fully develop into its finished color
- Complete the recommended initial rinse
- Allow you to shower again before putting on your wedding dress
- Settle into a softer, more natural-looking glow
- Look beautiful for both the rehearsal dinner and wedding day
This timing also prevents the rushed feeling of getting sprayed the day before your wedding when you already have a full schedule of beauty appointments, rehearsals and last-minute details.
Should You Get a Spray Tan the Day Before Your Wedding?
Although a day-before appointment may work in certain situations, it is not my first recommendation for most brides.
If you are sprayed the day before, you may still be in the development period during your rehearsal dinner or other wedding activities. You also have less time to complete your rinses before getting dressed in white.
If your schedule only allows for a day-before appointment, contact before booking. A rapid-rinse formula and carefully planned appointment time may make it possible, but your individual schedule should be considered.
Can You Get a Spray Tan Three Days Before the Wedding?
Yes. Three days before can also work well, particularly if you have several pre-wedding events or need more flexibility with your schedule.
However, two days before usually provides the best balance: the tan has fully developed and softened, but the color is still fresh and at its most flattering for the wedding.
Your specific timing may vary based on your skin, selected formula, rehearsal schedule and whether you also want the tan to last into your honeymoon.
Should Every Bride Schedule a Trial Spray Tan?
I highly recommend a trial for brides who are new to spray tanning, have previously experienced an orange or uneven tan, or feel uncertain about how much color they want.
Your trial allows me to evaluate:
- How the selected formula develops on your skin
- Which color depth looks most natural
- How the tan complements your undertones
- How the color photographs in different lighting
- Whether you would prefer to go lighter or deeper for the wedding
Your bridal shower, bachelorette celebration, engagement photos or wedding makeup trial can be the perfect opportunity to test your color.
Perfect Glow Sunless™ also offers spray tan packages that are especially popular with brides. A package allows you to try your tan for several events leading up to the wedding, see how it looks in photographs and make small adjustments along the way.
By the time your final bridal appointment arrives, we will already know the formula and color depth that make you feel your most confident. Whenever possible, begin several weeks, or even a few months before the wedding so you can enjoy your glow at multiple bridal events without feeling rushed.
Should You Have a Spray Tan for Your Makeup Trial?
If you plan to be spray tanned for your wedding, having your trial color for your makeup appointment can be extremely helpful.
Your developed tan may affect the foundation shade, bronzer and other products your makeup artist chooses. It also gives you the opportunity to see your complete bridal look, hair, makeup and tan—before the wedding day.
This is another reason bridal spray tan packages are so helpful. Rather than testing your color without an occasion, you can coordinate your appointments with meaningful events throughout your wedding journey.
Will a Spray Tan Transfer Onto a Wedding Dress?
The temporary cosmetic bronzer can transfer while you are wearing it (mostly on the inside ) which is one reason proper appointment timing and rinsing are so important.
When your spray tan is scheduled two days before the wedding, you will have time to complete your initial rinse and shower again before putting on your dress. This significantly reduces the chance of residual bronzer transferring onto white fabric.
Always follow the exact rinse instructions provided after your appointment. Rinsing too early or too late can affect the finished result. But i have tanned countless Palm Beach brides over the years and don’t worry it always comes off of the dress when using a professional cleaner.
How to Prepare for Your Bridal Spray Tan
Your bridal tan should be applied to clean, properly prepared skin. In the days leading up to your appointment:
- Remove any remaining spray tan or self-tanner
- Exfoliate approximately 24 to 48 hours beforehand
- Complete shaving or waxing in advance
- Schedule manicures, pedicures, facials and massages before your tan
- Avoid oils, lotions, deodorant, perfume and makeup on appointment day
- Arrive with clean, completely dry skin
- Bring dark, loose-fitting clothing and loose shoes to wear afterward
Avoid tight leggings, jeans, bras, socks or anything that may rub against your developing tan.
In Palm Beach heat, humidity or rain, plan to remain cool and dry until your first rinse. Bring an umbrella if needed and avoid outdoor activities that may cause perspiration.
What Color Should a Bridal Spray Tan Be?
Your bridal spray tan should enhance your natural skin tone—not overpower it.
The goal is not necessarily to make you as dark as possible. It is to create smooth, flattering color that complements your dress, photographs beautifully and still looks like you.
At Perfect Glow Sunless™, every bridal spray tan is customized based on your natural skin tone, undertones, desired depth and previous tanning experience. If you are fair or nervous about looking too dark, we can begin with a subtle, believable glow.
When you schedule multiple appointments through a package, I can refine your color gradually. You may decide that you want a little more depth for your bachelorette weekend but prefer a softer, more understated glow for the wedding itself.
Your Bridal Spray Tan Timeline
For a Saturday wedding, an ideal schedule may look like this:
- Several weeks or months before: Begin using your package for engagement photos, your bridal shower, bachelorette celebration or makeup trial
- At least a few weeks before: Evaluate your trial color and make any desired adjustments
- Tuesday or Wednesday of wedding week: Exfoliate and remove any old tan
- Thursday: Receive your customized bridal spray tan
- Thursday evening: Complete your first rinse at the instructed time
- Friday: Allow the color to fully develop and enjoy your rehearsal events
- Saturday: Walk down the aisle with a soft, settled and natural-looking glow
Your exact timeline will be personalized based on the formula used, your skin and your wedding plans.
The Perfect Bridal Glow Should Look Like You
After more than 17 years in the sunless tanning industry, one thing I always tell my brides is that your wedding tan should not look like a spray tan. It should look like you—just beautifully sun-kissed.
With the right timing, customized color and proper preparation, your bridal spray tan can give you the confidence and natural-looking glow you want for every photograph and unforgettable moment.
